Solar Flash Steam Cannon Solar Powered Gun Trough Mirror Fresnel Lens

November 29th, 2009 | by cmotel |

This is the trough mirror and a Fresnel Lens set. The water was shot in with a hose to produce flash steam. Ball bearing were used as ammo. A few modifications from this learning experience and we can launch 200 yards.

See your idea is close but not spot on. A flash boiler has a valve that is only opened after the water has super heated so you need a ball valve at the out going end and a diesel fuel psi Regulator on the water inlet valve from your feed pump. the idea is to keep the flash tube red hot and only put in small bursts of water to boost the steam psi but not enough to cool the tube.

“Why are you doing it?” I mean come on! Hot, exploding pipe ball bearing thingies, parabolic eye blinding mirrors, and scalding steam? Only a female would ask such a question. It painful clear why it needs to be done. :) Great video, really cool.

Wow that last shot was great. I don’t see how it was that much more powerful. Unless the pipe was left to heat up more before firing.

What a blast…pun intended… remember you only have about 30 watts solar per linear inch on the pipe.
