The chief of the UN Inter-Governmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is calling on Indias top business leaders to support the country solar energy mission and help ensure a sustainable future. This comes ahead of the CEO World Forum that opens this Thursday in New Delhi. Mr. R. K Pachauri explains how, according to the national action plan on climate change, India is to generate 20000 megawatts of solar power by the year 2022. [RK Pachauri, Head, UN IPCC]: “This is a very ambitious and a very visionary plan because by 2021-2022, that’s the fiscal year, the intention is for the country to establish 20000 megawatts of solar energy. And this does not include other form of energy, just solar power generating capacity. And I think this is where businesses and industry has to seize the opportunity.” The National Solar Energy Mission, launched in January this year, aims to sustain the country’s growth based on renewable and clean sources of energy in the near future.
